Hey, I'm Josh 👋 — a solo indie developer from the UK.
Phika started with a simple frustration: I couldn't remember which coffee beans I'd bought or what I thought of them. I tried Apple Notes, but it quickly became messy. So I built the tool I wished existed.
In October 2025, I was diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. Building Phika has given me something positive to focus on during what's been an incredibly difficult time. It's become more than just an app — it's a creative outlet and a reminder that I can still build meaningful things.
While I'm undergoing treatment, Phika is completely free — every feature, no limits, no paywalls. When I'm well enough to introduce a paid tier in the future, everyone who joined before that point will keep full access for free.
Phika is built natively for iOS with SwiftUI. Your data is stored securely with Firebase. I don't run ads, I don't sell your data, and I never will.

Yes. While the developer is undergoing cancer treatment, every feature is available to everyone at no cost — no limits, no paywalls.

Yes. Coffee logs you add are visible to other users in the Discover section. This is how the community discovers and learns about new coffees.
Yes. Go to the Account tab and tap "Delete Account". This permanently removes your account and all associated data immediately.
Phika is available on iPhone running iOS 17 or later, with an Apple Watch companion app.

Information you provide: Your name (via Apple Sign-In onboarding), coffee logs (roaster, origin, brew method, ratings, photos), equipment (optional), and country (optional).
Automatically collected: Basic usage analytics and device information via Firebase Analytics. We do not track you across other apps or websites.
We use your data to provide the Phika service, display your coffee logs in community search results, generate your personal statistics, and improve the app. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.
When you add a coffee to your collection, the following is publicly visible to all users: coffee bean details, your photos, ratings, tasting notes, display name, and brewing details.
Your data is stored securely using Firebase (Google Cloud) with industry-standard encryption. Authentication is handled via Apple Sign-In. Photos are stored in Firebase Cloud Storage.
You can permanently delete your account and all associated data directly within the app. Go to the Account tab and tap "Delete Account". Deletion is processed immediately.
Phika is not intended for users under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

By using Phika, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
Phika is a mobile app that allows users to log and catalogue coffee beans, record brewing methods and ratings, upload photos, and discover coffees logged by other users.
You must use Apple Sign-In to create an account, provide accurate information, and be at least 13 years old.
You retain ownership of your content but grant Phika a licence to display it within the app. All coffee logs are publicly visible in the Discover feature. Content must not be illegal, harmful, threatening, or infringe on intellectual property.
Your display name is public. We reserve the right to reset names that are offensive, impersonate others, or contain spam. Repeated violations may result in account suspension.
You may delete your account at any time from the Account tab. This permanently removes all your data and cannot be undone.
The app is provided "as is" without warranties. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
